OMG, you guys! I just learned something CRAZY about Web Forums PHP!
So, I was messing around with some code and I stumbled upon this thing called "flatboading" in phpBB. Apparently, it's a way to optimize the database queries for forums that have a ton of posts and topics. Who knew?!
Apparently, phpBB has this setting called "flatboard" that allows you to store all the posts and topics in a single table, instead of having separate tables for each topic. This makes it way faster and more efficient for massive forums with millions of posts.
But here's the thing, guys... it's not enabled by default! You have to manually edit the config.php file and set $config['flatboard'] to true. I mean, I know I'm no expert, but I thought that was some next-level stuff right there!
Has anyone else out there tried flatboading their phpBB forum? How did it work out for you? Did you notice any major improvements in performance?
Also, what are some other optimization tips and tricks for phpBB? I'm all ears!
